MUSCAT : Oman launched Hydrom to accelerate the development of green hydrogen industry in the country and achieve zero carbon neutral goals.

Alongside the launch, the Ministry of Energy and Minerals also announced its plans to invite bids to invest $140 billion in green hydrogen initiatives. The Minister unveiled the investment targets and incentives for green hydrogen in the Sultanate of Oman until 2050.

The Sultanate plans to create and enable huge investments in green hydrogen by 2050, in the areas of solar panels, wind turbines, electrolyzers, hydrogen-derived products, storage and transportation, water desalination and more.

These will include about 3 million solar panels, approximately 10,000 wind turbines, 5,200 electrolysis units and about 180 GW of renewable energy production capacity.

The Sultanate expects developers to implement integrated projects; the projects are expected to be integrated by developing the entire value chain of hydrogen production. The developers are expected to offer a mix of wind and solar power that will ensure a competitive cost of hydrogen (which can evolve over time). Investments will be sought in renewable energy generation, hydrogen production and hydrogen derivatives production.
