CHINA: The gas field, named ‘Baodao 21-1’, is located in the southeastern waters of Hainan Island, and contains geological reserves of more than 50 billion cubic meters of gas; it has a depth of more than 1,500 meters, while the drilling depth exceeded 5,000 meters.
The Baodao field reflects China’s great progress in deep-water exploration technologies, according to Chinese media.
In the field of offshore oil and gas exploration, fields with a depth of more than 300 meters are classified as deep waters, and wells with a depth of more than 3,500 meters are classified as deep wells. The Baodao 21-1 gas field meets both definitions.
