MUSCAT: The Oman Automobile Association (OAA) organized a press conference at its headquarters to announce the calendar of events for the 2022-2023 sports season. The conference was addressed jointly by Sulaiman bin Abdullah Al Rawahi, General Manager of OAA, Anwar bin Ali Al Zadjali, Advisor of OAA, and Fahmi bin Nasser Al Busaidi, Director of the International Oman Drift Championship to present details of the forthcoming events.

On top of the calendar is the Oman Rally Championship, which is one of the oldest motor sport championships in the Sultanate of Oman. It will be held on rough and unpaved roads in different regions of the Sultanate and will be contested through four rounds, starting from 21st of October.

Oman Freestyle Championship, which will be contested in five rounds for saloon and SUV categories, will begin with the first round on October 28; the Oman Double Drift Championship will start on November 25.

The motorsports season will comprise of 68 championships, including 8 international championships that tastes of motorsports enthusiasts in the Sultanate of Oman, such as drifting, rallying, karting, four-wheel drive, freestyle racing, digital car racing and remote control car racing, and others, with the aim of developing motorsports and facilities and attracting the largest number of participants from inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman.

The Muscat Speedway will host a wide range of local, international and regional tournaments at its Karting Circuit during the current sports season. The local championships will include SWS speed races for different age groups, endurance races, Rotax Max challenges and the Kart Attack Championship.

As far as international tournaments are concerned, Oman has obtained the rights to organize the third consecutive edition of the Middle East and North Africa Karting Championship Nations Cup 2022, which will be hosted by the Muscat Speedway from December 13 to 17, in addition to the Oman and UAE Rotax Max Challenge – to be held in three rounds, starting on December 7.

The Oman International Drift Championship is one of the most famous and strongest drifting championships in the world. The tournament will be divided into four rounds instead of the previous three, with the first round taking place on January 12 and 13, 2023.

The next edition of Middle East Rally Championship will be held from January 26 to 28, 2023, with the participation of the most prominent drivers of the Middle East and North Africa and the most prominent racers of the Sultanate of Oman.
