MUSCAT: The 11th session of the ‘Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime’ is being held in the Austrian capital Vienna, from 17 to 21 October.

The Sultanate of Oman was represented at the opening of this conference by a delegation led by H.E. Nasr bin Khamis Al-Sawa’ai, the Public Prosecutor, with the participation of Dr. Ahmed bin Saeed Al Shukaili, Assistant Public Prosecutor, Colonel Khalifa bin Hamed Al Suba’i of the Royal Oman Police, and Mr. Mohammed bin Badr Al Jabri, Second Secretary of the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman to the Republic of Austria.

In the coming days, the conference will review topics related to the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and the protocols thereto, which are the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children, the Protocol against the Smuggling of Migrants by Land, Sea and Air, and the Protocol against the Illicit Manufacturing and Trafficking in Firearms, Their Parts and Components and Ammunition.

The conference will also address the areas of international cooperation on extradition, mutual legal assistance, and international cooperation for the purposes of confiscation, the establishment and strengthening of central authorities, and other topics of international interest in crime-fighting issues.
