MUSCAT: The Omani Astronomical Society said that the Sultanate of Oman will witness a partial solar eclipse on October 25 (Tuesday).
Al-Jalanda bin Masoud Al-Rawahi, Vice-Chairman of the Community Communication Committee of the Omani Astronomical Society, said: “The partial solar eclipse will begin at 14:50, according to the local time of the Sultanate of Oman, while the peak of the partial eclipse will reach at 15:57, and it will end at 16:58, the partial solar eclipse will last approximately 2 hours and 7 minutes.”
Al-Rawahi added that residents will also be able to watch this astronomical event using appropriate solar glasses as the partial solar eclipse will be observed differently from one region to region. “It will be visible 36% in Muscat, 22% in Salalah, 35% in Nizwa, 37% in Sohar, and 41% in Musandam,” Al Rawahi concluded.

A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and the earth, so that the sun, the moon and the earth are in one straight line, so the moon covers the sun’s disk temporarily, and blocks its rays for a short period so that it casts a shadow on a part of the earth.
The Omani Astronomical Society, in cooperation with the Department of Astronomical Affairs at the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs and others will organize events for general public to witness the eclipse which will be announced later.
The Society issued safety procedures to be followed while observing the solar eclipse: One should not look at the eclipse with the naked eye or directly as it may damage the retina of the eye.
