Oman’s Ministry issues 8,380 water licences

Al Dhahirah governorate topped the list with 288 while the least number just two was issued to Musandam governorate

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR) issued 871 new water licences in September, bringing the total number of water licenses issued to 8,380 by the ministry in 2022.

Al Dhahirah governorate topped the list with 288 water licences, followed by Al Dakhiliyah governorate (163), North Al Sharqiyah Governorate (119), South Al Batinah Governorate (109), Al Dhahirah North Al Batinah Governorate (95), South Al Sharqiyah (36), Al Buraimi (29) and Muscat (16).

The least number of licences were issued to governorates of Dhofar (nine), Al Wusta (five) and Musandam (two).
The MAFWR followed a ministerial decision last June regarding the formation of a working group to curb the phenomenon of unlicensed wells and the aim of developing an action plan and taking legal measures to eradicate this phenomenon which doubled recently.
