MUSCAT: The agreement was signed by Sheikh Aiman Al Hosni, CEO of Oman Airports Management Company, and Patrick Verhoeven, CEO, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Vanderlande Industries Holding BV.

On the sidelines of the signing ceremony, Saud bin Nasser Al-Hubaishi, Vice President of Muscat International Airport and Acting Head of Operations for Oman Airports, said: “Due to the increased movement witnessed by Muscat International Airport and Salalah Airport throughout the year, we at Oman Airports are working to keep pace with this growth by providing our finest services to travelers to enhance ease and smoothness of landing, boarding and baggage collection. The agreement will help provide services and maintenance by a global company with experience in managing, operating and maintaining baggage handling systems, and boarding bridges across our airports.”

He added that the baggage handling system includes belts specific to return trips, as they include transferred baggage and local baggage, as well as belts specific to baggage coming to Muscat. There are also systems for large-sized baggage, including two belts for departing baggage and two belts for transferred baggage. The contract also includes staff that specializes in baggage handling systems – for sorting systems, for closed circuit camera systems, and for monitoring and control systems.
