Gold falls as dollar rises

Gold prices fell by more than one percent amidst the rising dollar and strong expectations that the US Federal Reserve will continue to hike interest rates

MUSCAT: Rising dollar rate and expectations that the US Federal Reserve will continue to raise interest rates sharply pushed the precious metal to its lowest in a week. Spot gold prices fell by 1.1% to $1,676.79 an ounce, while US gold futures fell 1.5% to $1683.90 an ounce.

Gold fell for the fourth consecutive day, which is probably the worst performance since mid-August.

As for other precious metals, silver prices fell in spot transactions by 1.9% to $19.72 an ounce, and platinum fell 0.5% to $907.58, while palladium rose by 3.3% to $2253.37.
