Oman’s Sumaiya storms into final of Stars of Science

The mother of three children, doubles as researcher at SQU and works as a teacher, is one step away to be the best in Arab world.

Omani innovator Sumaiya bint Saeed al Siyabi sailed into the final of the Stars of Science program for her scientific innovation in ‘bio-analysis of microplastics in a new way of biological and nanotechnology’, which will be held next Friday (October 14).

The Omani innovator speaking to Oman News Agency (ONA) to support her by voting on the program’s website http://starsofscience.com, where the public vote represents 50%, while the remaining percentage will be determined b y the jury. The online voting will be open till October 13.

 “I’m glad that the innovation and its role in preserving the environment and our health. In the semifinals stage, I organized a practical application to follow the previous laboratory experiments.

“Using a fish tank filled with 10 litres of water, the process of decomposition of plastic particles was followed up and the changes that take place,” said the mother of three who also doubles as a researcher at Sultan Qaboos University and works as a teacher.

Sumaiya, in 2021, was honoured by the Sultanate of Oman’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth with the Excellence Youth Award.

The Stars of Science program is considered a pioneer in the Arab world in the field of innovation and it is one of the initiatives of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development and aims to empower Arab innovators by developing technological solutions.
