MUSCAT : News sources have confirmed that the Iranian Foreign Ministry, on its website, stated that the Sultanate of Oman thanked Iran for handing over the American citizen, Baqer Namazi. It noted that H.E. Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, Oman’s Foreign Minister, in a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart, expressed his gratitude and appreciation for Tehran’s trust in the Omani authorities, and Iran’s humanitarian work in extraditing the Irani-American citizen Baqir Namazi to Muscat.

The British Daily Mail reported on the efforts of the Sultanate of Oman to lift the travel ban on Namari, and its coordination with Iranian authorities in this regard. US News also indicated that Omani efforts succeeded in lifting travel restrictions on Baqer Namazi, who was convicted in Iran in 2016 and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

IRNA confirmed that H.E. Al Busaidi expressed his appreciation for the Iranian humanitarian move in releasing Baqer Namazi. He was quoted as saying ‘Oman has always supported the wise positions of Iran in the region and in international communities alike’.

The Star Tribune newspaper reported on the mediation efforts undertaken by the Sultanate of Oman between Western countries and Iran, which resulted in the release of many detainees, the last of whom was Baqir Namazi.
