MUSCAT: The Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs (MERA) has issued a clarification regarding a mosque that was temporarily closed in Muscat Governorate.

In a statement issued, MERA said the closure of the mosque was “due to the occurrence of cracks in the main entrances to the mosque, in addition to the leakage of surface water into the main prayer hall.”

“In order to preserve the safety of the worshipers, the mosque was temporarily closed, and specialized companies were called to examine the building’s structure,” MERA said.

“The results of the examination showed the possibility of repairing the concrete cracks. The work is underway to maintain the mosque and repair what needs to be repaired,” MERA added.
