MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman’s Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) raided a number of commercial shops in the Wilayat of Al Mazyona, Dhofar Governorate, for violating the Consumer Protection Law and Regulations during the weekend.

“The Department of Consumer Protection in Al Mazyona, in cooperation with the Municipality of Al Mazyona, recently carried out periodic inspection campaigns on the markets of the Wilayat of Al Mazyona, in order to ascertain the extent to which the shops comply with the Consumer Protection Law and Regulations and the relevant systems and decisions and to find a safe consumer market free,” CPA said in an official release.

During the raids, expired goods and a number of goods exceeding official counts were seized. A number of shops were raided for violating laws and regulations, the reasons for which varied between not setting prices, setting unfair conditions, the existence of a difference in the price of the goods between the accountant and the shelf, commercial fraud, and non-conformity of some goods approved specifications and standards. A number of show cause notices were also issued for non-compliance with the Law and its regulations.
