MUSCAT: As part of the attention accorded to camel sports by HH Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, has earmarked a financial sum for holding camel races in the designated racecourses in governorates of Oman.
Sheikh Said Saud Al Ghufaili, Chairman of Oman Camel Racing Association, said that the gesture seeks to preserve camel racing as an aspect of heritage that constitutes economic revenue to camel breeders and camel slimmers.
He added that the Association will announce the details of camel races over the next few days, since some high-density governorates will have two camel racecourses.
