MUSCAT: The hosts Sultanate of Oman qualified for AFC U-20 Asian Cup to be hosted by Uzbekistan in 2023.
In a must-win Group ‘G’ match, Omani youth team blanked Thailand by a solitary goal held at Al Saada Sports Complex in Salalah on Sunday night. Ahad Al Habshi Almashaikhi scored the winner in the 21st minute for the hosts trained by Spaniard David Gordo.
In the earlier Group G matches, Oman began their campaign by thrashing the Philippines 3-0 but suffered a stunning 0-1 loss at the hands of Afghanistan.

But on Sunday, the Philippines did Oman a big favour when they shocked Afghanistan 1-0 when midfielder Kamil Jaser Amirul struck in the 83rd minute and survived anxious moments in the next 10 minutes including the added-on time.
The home team topped the Group’G’ on goal average with two wins and booked tickets to Uzbekistan.
