MUSCAT: The National Company for Natural Honey brought home international honours from the just concluded 47th edition of the International Organization for the Union of Beekeepers (Apimondia) in Turkey.
Omani Gum Arabic Honey settled for silver medal while Omani Frankincense Honey was forced to content with a bronze medal in the world meeting recently.
“We faced stiff competition this time. There were at least 1,000 participants from all over the world. We first competed in 2017, and showed to global audience the quality of Omani honey. This time we vied for top honours with big global companies,” said Muhammad bin Tariq Al-Shanfari, CEO of the National Company for Natural Honey.
“The aim of the participation is to put a global footprint for the Omani honey product, especially the products of the National Natural Honey Company, which are produced with great care and conform to international food standards in all stages of production, starting from the hive to reaching the consumer,” Al Shanfari briefed about how Omani honey impressed the global audience.
“This time we brought home two medals – including a silver and two bronze medals – in the just concluded International Organization for Union of Beekeepers in Turkey. The selection and criteria were tiff. First we have to sent samples to the organizers five months before actual competition. Once we passed that test, we have to send the samples to 47 other contestants and then final screening. The specialists will evaluate the color, smell and taste giving points to each category. The aggregate points are taken into care before topoers are announced,” he concluded.
