MUSCAT: The Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR) chairman Dr Mansour bin Talib Al Hinai led by example by visiting Ibri 400/200 kV station on Tuesday as part of the probe into the rare and unprecedented power outage witnessed in five of the governorates in the Sultanate from Monday afternoon till the wee hours.
“The power outage is due to purely technical reasons,” the APSR chief made the statement after making a whirlwind visit to the Ibri station accompanied by Oman Electricity Transmission Company team who are investigating the power outage.
“We expect the link between the two systems of the north and south of the Sultanate of Oman in the year 2026. The first phase is expected to be completed in 2023 and studies are underway to implement the second phase,” said the APSR chief.

The APSR will ensure that the licensed company will work overtime and comply with the recommendations of the probe team.
Labour Ministry accepts power outage hits its service.
The Labour Ministry too has joined the chorus that blamed the power outage hitting its services.
“The Ministry of Labour apologises for the lack of the smart card service (PkI) to extract ‘to whom it may concern’ at the present time, due to a technical malfunction. You can use the ID card reader to complete this transaction via the Ministry’s website,” the Ministry said in a statement.
