MUSCAT: In a big push to the Oman economy, the production of liquid ammonia plant begins production in Dhofar Governorate.

The first shipment was exported through the Salalah port to international markets.

On Sunday, the Global Integrated Energy Group (OQ) announced that the start of production at the ammonia plant in the Dhofar Governorate, with a design production capacity of 1,000 metric tonnes per day of liquid ammonia.

The first shipment of ammonia was already exported through the Port of Salalah through the OQ company.
The ammonia plant is one of the strategic growth projects wholly owned by the OQ Group with an investment of $463 million.

Ammonia is used in the production of fertilizers, urea fertilizer, cleaning products and coolants, and it is one of the most important components of the green hydrogen industry.

Hilal bin Ali Al Kharousi, CEO of the OQ said: “The implementation of the ammonia plant comes within the framework of the group’s efforts to enhance the added value of natural resources in the Sultanate of Oman and support the government’s plans for economic diversification, as the plant’s exports will target global markets in general. and Asia in particular, to contribute to the promotion of Omani exports abroad.”

He added that there is a global demand for ammonia products in the global markets, and its prices are witnessing a steady rise which will be a big push to the economy.
