MUSCAT: The Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources has announced a new set of regulations to be strictly followed by all owners of traditional fishing vessels.

According to a ministry circular all owners of traditional fishing vessels have to adhere to the provisions of the legal articles; install tracking devices, renew their expired licenses and reconfirm their current status within a month. “This is to avoid any legal consequences that may be taken in this regard,” the official circular stated on Wednesday.

The ministry indicated that this is based on the provisions of Article (29/d) of the Living Aquatic Resources Law and Article (6) of Ministerial Resolution No. (368/368) specifying fishing sites for artisanal (traditional) and coastal fishing vessels and installing tracking devices on fishing vessels.
