Oman sees alarming increase in divorce cases

Over 3,800 divorce cases have been registered in Oman last year.

MUSCAT: Oman has registered an alarming increase in the number of divorce cases in 2021, according to a statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). 

According to the data, 3,837 divorce cases have been filed in 2021, compared to 3,426 cases in 2020. An average of 10 divorce cases have been registered every day. “There is a 12% rise or 411 cases compared to 2020,” the data said. 

Muscat Governorate recorded the highest number of divorces, at 796, followed by North Al Batinah (672), while Musandam had the lowest number of divorces (18).
