MUSCAT: One of the oldest Pakistani expat family residing in the Sultanate has gifted a unique and the oldest labour cards in its type to the National Museum of Oman.
Shaandar Bukhari gifted the bilingual resident card belonging to his father Sakhawat Bukhari, who came to Oman about 45 years ago. “Oman is my home. This is my gift to the Sultanate for providing the expatriates with a good life,” said Sakhawat Bukhari in an exclusive interview with TAS TV.
The Bukhari family is well known among the Pakistani diaspora residing in the sultanate due to its social work. Now retired, Sakhawat also served as secretary-general of Pakistan Social Club for four terms.

“I came to Oman in 1976 as a personal tutor of English language for the children of a sheikh in Muscat,” he said.
“The labour card then used to be valid for one year and the fees was OMR 1,” he noted.
“It is made of thick paper and was in use almost half a century ago and has an emotional connect with us as it holds the memories of departure from home land and starting a new life here in the Sultanate,” Shaandar added.
