It’s not a phenomenon pertaining to a certain country or region, around the world, everyone is eager for a game night sesh to get their weekly dose of digital detox by engaging in board games.

Why the sudden turn towards board games?
There are many distinct reasons why board games have gained popularity in the recent past. Even though they enjoyed being in the limelight since times immemorable, the internet has now made it simpler for people to learn about them.
Thanks to crowdsourcing, which has aided the growth of board games by increasing the volume and variety of board games created. Adding to the mix, people are now consciously attempting to cut back on screen time.
“I’m a total extrovert and my wife is an introvert, So game nights are perfect especially for her as she enjoys the company of limited people. Personally, for me, I enjoy game nights it’s perfect, especially after a long week. You order food invite friends and play board games. It’s something I have come to enjoy too,” said Saideep Menon, a 31-year-old professional living in Muscat.

The market for board games has developed throughout time, going from straightforward diversions to highly intricate strategic challenges. This pattern is anticipated to continue as intriguing new gaming mechanics are developed in the upcoming years.
There is no denying that the popularity of board games is growing. Both online and offline board games have seen rising interest in recent years. This is because of a variety of factors, including the overall expansion of the gaming sector.

What lies ahead?
“The board game industry has seen a resurgence in recent years and is expected to carry on growing further. Industry forecasters predict the global board game market will be worth more than £9 billion by 2023,” according to a BBC report.
