MUSCAT: The Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Pakistan has extended congratulations to Omani climber Nadhira Alharthy for successfully summiting the world’s second highest peak in a single day.

Alharthy has created history by becoming the first-ever Omani woman to reach the top of 8,611-metre K2. The incredible effort was made possible by the forecast of steady weather in the Karakoram Range Mountains, which encouraged five people from Nepal to fix ropes to the peak on late Thursday evening, opening the way for other climbers.

Alharthy, who was a member of the Seven Summits Treks crew, made it to the summit shortly after the rope had been fixed. He Jing, a Chinese female climber, was also a member of the team that Alharthy was a part of. He Jing successfully ascended the peak without the aid of oxygen.

Nadhira is also the first Omani woman to have climbed Mount Everest, scaled the heights of her dreams as she set her foot on the highest mountain on earth on May 23, 2019. Her contribution to the National Pride was publicly celebrated across Oman.
