MUSCAT : Experts and international media described His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik’s maiden visit to Germany (from July 13 to 15) as “historic” and “a visit of high hopes”.
His Majesty met German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin.
As part of the visit, Oman signed what is considered a historic declaration of intent agreement with the Federal Republic of Germany on energy issues. “The aim is to achieve an important and smooth exchange of know-how, integrated systems and smart grids in the field of energy,” an official said.

His Majesty and Scholz “reviewed the growing bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and discussed ways of upgrading the existing co-operation and partnership to serve the common interests of the Omani and German peoples,” Oman News Agency said.
“The summit talks held by HM with His Excellency President Dr Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of the Federal Republic of Germany, and Olaf Scholz, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany dealt with broad topics and upcoming areas of cooperation between the two countries, especially with regard to new clean energy and green hydrogen, and deepening partnership in a number of vital areas such as transport, education, food, water and health security, and enhancing tourism and cultural cooperation,” said His Excellency Sayyid Badr Al Busaidi, the country’s Foreign Minister who accompanied His Majesty to Berlin.
Soon after concluding his visit, His Majesty commended the strong ties of friendship binding the Sultanate of Oman and the Federal Republic of Germany.
