MUSCAT: Two people who died after they were swept away by strong waves at Al Mughsayl beach in Dhofar Governorate are Indian nationals.
The body of Shashikant Mhamane (42) and his son Shreyas (6) were recovered from Al Mughsayl on Tuesday, while search is underway to find his 9-year-old daughter Shreya who also went missing during the tragic incident. According to sources, Shashikant who lived with family in Dubai, were visiting Oman as part of their Eid Al Adha holiday. They hailed from Maharashtra’s Sangli district.
As per preliminary information, Shreya and Shreyas were swept away by a strong wave while playing in the water and Shashikant too drowned while trying to save them.

Meanwhile, a total of 16 people died, while four are still missing due to the flash floods and extreme weather conditions in the Sultanate over the last many days. Brigadier General Mohammed bin Nasser Al Kindi, Director General of Operations at the Royal Oman Police said more than 40 people were rescued in the last five days. “16 people have died, while we are still searching for four people,” Al Kindi added.
