Oman’s public debt drops to OMR 18 billion

The public debt will drop to OMR 18.6 billion by the end of July 2022.

MUSCAT: Oman’s public debt will reduce to OMR 18.6 billion by the end of July 2022, compared to the record at the end of 2021, which amounts to about OMR 20.8 billion.

“The government of the Sultanate of Oman was able to buy back some international bonds before their maturity by holding the first auction of its kind in the region, with an estimated value of OMR 269 million, less than the face value of these bonds when they were offered,” Ministry of Finance said in a statement on Thursday.

“Achieving savings from future interest (debt service) on loans and bonds that were repaid before their due date, with an estimated value of about OMR 127 million,” the statement added.
