KOCHI: Renowned Indian filmmaker Mahesh Narayanan’s Malayalam film Ariyippu has been selected in the 75thLocarno Film Festival.
Aryippu, which means ‘Declaration’ in English stars Kunchacko Boban and Divya Prabha in the lead. “It is really an honour to be selected to the international competition section of such a prestigious film festival. I have tried to stay true and honest in finding a different cinematic idiom to tell this story and I now feel grateful that it has been rewarded,” Mahesh said in a statement. Mahesh’s earlier films Malik and Take Off received critical accolades.
The movie will be the first Indian film in international competition of the festival since the 2005 Bengali film Antarmahal by legendary filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh. The Locarno Film Festival will be held from August 3 to August 13, and Ariyippu will be screened on August 4.
