MUSCAT: The Environment Authority (EA) has issued a clarification regarding the spread of plastic waste that washed up on some of the beaches in Muscat Governorate.
In a statement issued, EA said the spread of plastic waste is from a wooden ship that sank outside the territorial waters of the Sultanate and the waste reached the beaches as a result of strong sea current.
EA sad its specialists “conducted a field survey of those beaches and assessed the environmental situation in the regional waters to ensure that they were not affected by pollution.”

EA also coordinated with the relevant authorities to remove the waste and clean the beaches to return them to their normal state.
