MUSCAT: After successfully leading Oman’s health sector for over a decade, His Excellency Dr Ahmed Mohammed Obaid Al Saidi, has stepped down as Minister of Health.
In a major cabinet reshuffle, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik on Thursday appointed Dr Hilal Al Sabti, as the new Minister of Health.
Globally respected by healthcare professionals, Al Saidi was instrumental in leading Oman’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Appointed by the late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said as the Minister of Health in 2010, Al Saidi bridged the gaps in knowledge and developed health strategies.

“It’s time for the Knight to step down. You have fulfilled our trust and may God reward you on our behalf. You have left an imprint written by history over the years,” said a social media user Mohamed Al Hinai. A hashtag #ThankYouDr.AhmedAlSaidi is now trending on Twitter since the announcement was made on Thursday.
Al Saidi was previously the Under Secretary for Health Affairs for two years (2008-2010). He was also a Senior Consultant-Rheumatologist before being appointed as the Deputy Director-General of the Royal Hospital.
“Thank you, Dr. Ahmed. You did not fail us. We did not forget your stance during the Covid-19 crisis. We will never forget you. You have done so much for our country,” said Ahmed Al Maani on Twitter.
“Throughout my tenure, the priority was always to improve the healthcare facilities in our country. In the coming years, I am hoping to see more international companies coming to Oman to have a base. The facilities are available and the regulations are much simpler than they used to be,” Al Saidi said in an interview.
