Oman’s summer midday break for workers begins; to last for three months

As part of the three-month midday break outdoor work including at construction sites is banned from 12:30 to 3:30PM

MUSCAT: Ministry of Manpower have ordered all companies in Oman to stop work at construction sites and open areas between 12.30pm to 3.30pm from June 1 until the end of August.

“Workers should be not employed at construction sites and open areas in high temperatures between 12.30 and 3.30pm in the peak summer months of June, July and August, said the Ministry of Manpower in a statement.

Under Article 16 of Ministerial Decree No. 286/2008, outdoor workers in Oman are banned from working in high temperatures during the summer months.

According to Article 118 of the Oman Labour Law, violators can be penalised with hefty fines and their penalty is doubled for repeat violations.
