MUSCAT: The provinces of South Al Sharqiyah and Al Wusta have together accounted for 70.1% of Oman’s fish production over the past year
Through artisanal fishing, these provinces produced 646,734 tons of fish, crustaceans, molluscs and sharks.
The figures represented 43,971 tons of large surface fish, about 242,164 tons of small surface fish, 636,000 tons of benthic fish, 788 tons of sharks and about 7,600 tons of crustaceans and molluscs.

In 2021, Al Wusta, province produced 359,598 tons, accounting for 39 per cent of Oman’s total production. The value of fish in Al Wusta province in the artisanal fishing sector was RO 127 million and RO 267,000 in 2021.
