MUSCAT: Nearly 400,000 tourists visited Oman in the first four months of 2022, as the country’s tourism sector is recovering from the repercussions of COVID-19 pandemic, a top official said.
Haitham bin Mohammed Al Ghassani, Director General of Tourism Promotion at the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism said the “Sultanate hosted 393,645 international tourists in the first four months of this year, and these numbers are expected to increase.”
The government is currently promoting Oman tourism in Italy. “We are very happy to be here in Italy, as it is one of the most important European markets for the Sultanate of Oman,” he said.

According to the World Travel and Tourism Council, the global travel and tourism sectors are projected to return to pre-pandemic levels in 2023 and grow at a rate that will outpace global gross domestic product (GDP) growth. “We are looking to enhance our tourism sector by adding more destinations and inviting the world to visit Oman,” Al Ghassani added.
