MUSCAT: The Ministry of Health represented by the Personnel Welfare Section and in collaboration with the Directorate General of Nursing Affairs organised an event on Thursday to observe the International Nurses Day.

Each year International Nurses Day is observed on May 12 and this year it was celebrated under the theme ‘Nurses: A Voice to Lead – Invest in Nursing’ along with promoting the idea of respecting rights to secure global health.

The event was held under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Fatima Mohammed Al Ajmi, Ministry’s Undersecretary for Administrative, Financial, and Planning Affairs, with the presence of Dr. Jamal Al Khadhori, Director General of Nursing Affairs as well number of MOH’s senior officials in Sheraton Hotel.

To begin with, Al Fatiha was recited in remembrance of the nurses who sacrifices their souls during the pandemic.

At the event, the Director General of Nursing Affairs acknowledged the noble contribution of the nurses and highlighted the sacrifices they have made during the pandemic, and in the exceptional climate condition of the tropical cyclone Shaheen.

Moreover, Dr. Al Khadhori stressed that the event is recognising the courage and the sacrifices nurses are making on the frontline and encourages them to continue they work for providing quality health care and upgrading the performance of the MOH health
institutions.

The patron of the event then honoured 50 nurses from the Sultanate’s various health institutions.

The event aimed at motivating and encouraging the nurses to make more efforts to enhance the quality of nursing care for patients.

It further aimed to urge them to advance the nursing profession, dedication in performance, which will reflect positively on the quality of health care provided in the Sultanate of Oman, in line with its vision 2040.

It should be noted that the Ministry of Health has initiated a hashtag for community members to publish tweets on the International Nurses Day.
