MUSCAT: HE Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad al-Busaidi and His Excellency Sergey Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister held a press conference on Wednesday, May 11.
“During my meeting with officials in Oman, we discussed bilateral relations and economic cooperation and discussed the lifting of trade between the two countries. We seek to strengthen trade cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and Russia in order to increase the volume of exchange to meet the aspirations of both sides,” the Russian minister said.
He also added that both the sides have agreed to expand the package of bilateral agreements, including mutual visa exemption for citizens of the two countries and the cooperation agreement between the Russian Museum and the National Museum of Oman.

Russian Minister said, “We appreciate the role of Oman towards the Syrian file and believe that the time has come for Syria to return to the Arab League and believe that Oman is able to contribute actively to this matter.”
“The Omani side briefed us on the latest developments in Russian operations in Ukraine and it’s geopolitical dimension,” the minister said.
Oman’s Foreign Minister His Excellency Badr bin Hamad al-Busaidi stressed that Oman has extended its support to all international efforts to make the negotiations on Iran’s nuclear issue a success. “We do not blame any party for disrupting the negotiations, but we support dialogue and direct talk,” the minister said.
Omani Foreign Minister added, “We discussed with the Russian side many topics of common interest and a number of regional and international issues. Oman is closely following the situation in Ukraine and calls on all parties to exercise restraint and resolve differences peacefully in order to avoid worsening the situation.”
The minister also stated that Oman supports all international efforts, particularly those of the United Nations, which aim to enhance security and stability in the region.
The Russian Foreign Minister said, “We assured the Omani side of our deep belief in the importance of activating negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis to reach a comprehensive solution to this historic issue.”
The Russian foreign minister has described the Sultanate of Oman’s position on the Russian-Ukrainian war as balanced.
