Oman successful in maintaining diplomatic ties with USA, China

The neutral stance taken by the Sultanate distinguishes it from the rest of the Arab Gulf states, a Turkish study said.

MUSCAT: A new study put forth by the faculty member at the Turkish Government University of Ankara Haji Bayram Veli has confirmed that Oman has successfully balanced it relations with the United States of America and China.

The study said that the neutral position of the Sultanate of Oman, and the maintenance of its diplomatic relations with every political figure in the region, distinguishes it from the rest of the Arab Gulf states.

The report further stated that the Sultanate of Oman is located at the intersection of the Arabian Gulf, the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean, explaining that historically, the Sultanate of Oman ruled the coasts of South Asia and East Africa, which expanded its influence.

The geographic location and historical legacy make the Sultanate of Oman a key country for the Maritime Silk Road Initiative, so its participation in the Belt and Road Initiative is invaluable in the eyes of Chinese policy makers, the study said.

While the Sultanate of Oman benefits from Chinese economic investments, it is has managed to balance its relations keeping in mind the US-Chinese interests in the Indian Ocean.
