MUSCAT: The Consumer Protection Authority in Rustaq arrested two workers, belonging to Asian community, selling chewed (non-smoked) tobacco.

As part of the efforts taken in the various governorates of the Sultanate, the authority has been monitoring the markets to put an end to malpractices and curb the sale of unauthorised goods. This has a negative impact on the health of people and the community in general.

The details are summarised by the judicial control officers, during their inspection visits. They cracked down on expat workers who were found in possession of 250 bags and boxes of chewed (non-smoked) tobacco

Legal measures have been taken against the accused and they were fined with OMR 1000 for the violations. They were found in violation of Resolution No. (256/2015) amended by Resolution No. (301/2016) regarding the ban on the circulation of chewing tobacco in any form and under any name.
