Oman remains major destination for Bangladesh workforce

About 160,000 Bangladeshi workers are expected to arrive in Oman this year.

MUSCAT: Oman will remain a major destination for Bangladeshi expatriate workers in 2022, a senior diplomat said.

Speaking in an interview, Maushumi Rahman, Deputy Head of the Embassy of Bangladesh in Muscat said: “The Sultanate of Oman is an important job market for Bangladeshi expatriates, and the country continues to remain vibrant, as the Gulf state has begun implementing a number of development projects.”

“Bangladeshi workers through their sincerity, humility and hard work, have left a good impression among the Omani employers, as well as their willingness to learn Arabic quickly, and the ability to mobilize the skills required for all types of jobs made them popular among Omani citizens,” she said in an interview with Dhaka-based Business Standard newspaper.

Bangladeshi nationals continue to make up Oman’s largest expat community, with 525,296 workers.

Meanwhile, the head of the Federation of Employment Agencies said about 160,000 Bangladeshi workers are expected to arrive in Oman this year. According to sources, about 60,000 Bangladeshi workers arrived in the Sultanate last year.
