Oman, Chinese ministers discuss global issues, regional development

MUSCAT: On Thursday afternoon, Oman’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi met with Chinese State Councillor and Defense Minister General Wei Fenghe, who is currently on a visit to the Sultanate of Oman.

During the meeting, the development of Omani-Chinese relations in various fields and ways to strengthen them were discussed. The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues of common interest and joint cooperation between the two countries within the framework of international endeavours aimed at achieving peace and stability.

His Excellency said in a tweet, “We emphasised on the relations of cooperation and friendship between our two countries and are working towards exploring more areas of partnership and investment in various sectors, including the areas of economic diversification, energy security and food security. We also exchanged views on global issues and regional and international developments.”

The meeting was attended by Ambassador Khalid bin Hashel Al-Maslihi, Head of the Department of the Minister’s Office at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Li Lingbing, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China accredited to the Sultanate of Oman, and the delegation accompanying the guest.

Earlier on the same day, Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs HH Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik Al Said received General Wei Fenghe in his office.

During the meeting, they reviewed the existing bilateral relations between the two countries and discussed a number of matters of common interest and areas of military cooperation between the two ministries of defence.

The meeting was attended by Lieutenant-General Abdullah bin Khamis Al Raisi, Chief of Staff of the Sultan’s Armed Forces, as was the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China accredited to the Sultanate of Oman, and the Defense Attaché at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Muscat.
