MUSCAT: “The COVID-19 pandemic is still ongoing and we have not seen an end to it yet. Therefore we must be stay cautious…”
These are the words of Oman’s health minister His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Al Saidi. Addressing the media on Wednesday, Al Saidi explained the reason behind the Supreme Committee’s decision to prevent children below the age of 12 from entering mosques during Taraweeh prayers.
“We should not put our children in a dangerous situation. Hence the Supreme Committee decided to prevent kids under 12 years of age from attending Taraweeh prayers in mosques,” Al Saidi said.

The Supreme Committee allowed mosques across the country to resume Taraweeh prayers during Ramadan, putting an end to a two-year ban. However, the committee said the ban on iftar gatherings in mosques and public places continue to stay in place. “Gatherings can help the virus to spread. It came to our knowledge that some government institutions and organisations have booked iftar halls,” the Minister added.
