MUSCAT: Kingfisher will take on KCA in the quarterfinal of the Grand Challenge Cup cricket tournament at the Al Hail grounds during the upcoming weekend.
Other teams to qualify for the quarterfinals of the 48-team knockout tournament organised by the Grand Global Investment group are Proline Knight Riders and Matco XI. In the pre-quarterfinal clashes, MIS Fighters will meet Rebels XI, Mumbai Stars take on Tamil CC, Spartans meet Karla and Sun Shine International (SSI) take on Michael XI.
Chief organiser Ali al Alawi, CEO of Grand Global Investment, said there will be a lucky draw for spectators during the weekend. “The spectators will get a chance to take part in the lucky draw during our final week of matches. We expect a good turnout for the final on Saturday as well,” Ali said.

Tournament technical director Sanjit Kanojia said the quarterfinals will be held on Friday. “We will conduct the quarterfinals on Friday. The semifinals and final will be held on Saturday,” Sanjit said.
On March 18, Spartans thrashed Kalinga Warriors by 10 wickets, SSI beat Bahmani CC by 15 runs, MIS Fighters prevailed over Kingsmen CC by nine wickets, Kingfisher beat AHC 11 by eight wickets, Matco XI Barka got better of Beagles Cricket team by 52 runs, Ruwi Smashers thumped Muscat Thunder by eight wickets and Proline Knight Riders defeated Renaissance Rangers by 81 runs.
On March 19, Matco XI edged Adrak Blasters by 24 runs, Kingfisher prevailed over United Friends Club by eight wickets, Mumbai Stars posted an eight-wicket win over Kingstar Ghubra, Proline Knight Riders beat Desert Warriors by 22 runs and KCA romped home by nine wickets against Ruwi Smashers.
In the Women’s Cup, Indian Social Club (ISC) are the favourites to win the title after registering three wins from their matches so far. However, they have the last match left against Sun Shine International on Saturday. SSI will conclude the round-robin league with a match against Aster Hospitals.
Wadi Kabeer Women are also in the reckoning with three wins from their four matches. On March 19, all winning margins were seven wickets as ISC beat Seema Dance Academy (SDA) and Wadi Kabeer prevailed over SDA and SSI.
