British Foreign Secretary thanks Oman for securing release of two citizens held in Iran

Both Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe and Anoosheh Ashoori arrived in Muscat on Wednesday on board a flight by the Royal Air Force of Oman, in preparation for their safe return to the United Kingdom.

MUSCAT: British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss thanked Oman for the diplomatic assistance in releasing two of its citizens who were held in Iran on Wednesday.

Based on the directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik, the Omani authorities cooperated and coordinated with relevant authorities of Iran and the United Kingdom for the release of two British citizens.

On Wednesday, Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, a British woman who had been detained by Iran since 2016, was released along with Anoosheh Ashoori, another British national.

In a statement issued, Truss said: “Last December I met Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al Busaidi to secure Oman’s diplomatic assistance. We are grateful to our friends in Oman for their support in securing the return of our nationals.”
