MUSCAT: Al Hamra Governorate, Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, on Tuesday has begun to harvest the wheat crop on an area of 40 acres and with a production expected to reach 50 tons, for the agricultural season 2021-22.

Engineer Salem bin Muhammad Al Hamimi, Director of the Department of Agricultural Wealth and Water Resources in the Wilayat of Al Hamra, explained that the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources is coordinating with the Omani Mills Company to purchase wheat from farmers for this season, to encourage them to market their production. 

He praised the efforts of farmers and their interest in cultivating wheat despite the scarcity of water, which had an impact on the lack of cultivated area compared to the last season 2020/2021, where the area planted with wheat reached 100 acres and an estimated production of 140 tons.

He added that the ministry encourages farmers to maintain the cultivation of various agricultural crops, including the cultivation of Omani wheat, by providing improved seeds and seeds, providing guidance, direction, and harvesting services. All farmers wishing to benefit from the wheat harvest service are invited to take the initiative in registering their names.
