MUSCAT: The Municipal Council in the Governorate of Muscat discussed the impact of severe climate conditions. It also discussed the efforts made by the competent authorities to reduce the danger of extreme climate conditions and the negative effects on the infrastructure in public and private facilities.
This came during the council’s meeting held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of His Excellency Sayyid Saud bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Minister of State and Governor of Muscat, Chairman of the Municipal Council.
The meeting also reviewed the implementation of protection projects from valley risks by hosting a number of specialists from the Ministry of Agricultural and Fisheries Wealth and Water Resources and Muscat Municipality to demonstrate their efforts in this regard.

For his part, Dr. Khalid bin Salem Al-Mashikhi – Assistant Director-General for Dam Affairs – at the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources explained the efforts made by the water resources sector in the ministry in monitoring and analysing floods and reducing their risks in the Governorate of Muscat and the appropriate recommendations to ensure the completion of these efforts. Noting that work has been done to study the proposed protection system from flood risks through proposed dam projects, which will in turn reduce the direct impact of valleys.
For its part, the Muscat Municipality reviewed the projects related to the prevention of flood risks and the treatment of rainwater pools, including the project to study the urgent works of the main valleys paths in the governorate, which aims to determine the flooding area of the main valleys after the occurrence of exceptional climatic conditions in June 2007, the proposed paths for their drainage and the estimated cost of their implementation, and the study of water drainage. surface.
The council also discussed a number of issues related to the municipal domain and took appropriate recommendations.
