MUSCAT: The Oman Racing Team, led by driver Ahmad Al Harthy, concluded its participation in the Le Mans Asian Championship for fourth in the final fourth round of the championship hosted by Yas Marina Circuit in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi.
The team had achieved fifth place in the third round of the championship the previous day, and was able to improve its position in the fourth race. The Omani team was close to ascending to the podium if the race continued for a longer period after tug of war between the competitors on the track.
The trio of Ahmad Al Harthy, Charlie Eastwood and Britain’s Sam DeHaan took turns driving the No. 69 Aston Martin Vantage GT3 throughout the scheduled period of the four-hour race, as the team’s start came from sixth place, according to the results of qualifications that took place yesterday, while the British St. Dehaan first behind the bench heralded the start of the race for the team.
The team finished its participation in the Asian Le Mans Championship series, and is in fifth place in the total of the championship year, after the trio of Al-Harthy, Eastwood and Dehan collected 40 points, with the participation of 23 competing teams in this category, and this participation is in preparation for the Oman team for the upcoming participations.
Driver Ahmad Al-Harthy said, “In the beginning, I am happy to finish participating in a major championship of the size of Le Mans in Asia in fourth place on the final day. We would have been able to reach the podium if it were not for some circumstances. We did not succeed in that, and these are the races with very complicated calculations by the technical teams, but the fourth place is not a bad position, and it is a position that I see well, and only one position separates us from the top three.”
