MUSCAT: The Oman Football Association, on Monday, announced the appointment of Spanish coach Pablo Herrio Fernandez as coach of the national youth team, and the appointment of Spanish coach Juan David Gordo as coach of the youth national team.
The federation explained in a statement that these contracts fall within the framework of implementing its plan and the objectives of the approved strategy, which is at the forefront of the first pillar of the federation’s work program, which are national teams at continental and international levels to raise the flag of the Sultanate of Oman.
Through these contracts, the federation seeks to move forward towards building national teams with high quality. A technical identity capable of achievement, and this can only be done through the establishment of an integrated network of teams capable of providing the first national team with ready players at any time, in order to ensure a new era promising achievements in accordance with the goals set.
The statement added that the federation was keen that the national coaches have an important share in bearing the responsibility, as assistants were contracted from the qualified national cadres, whose contract will have an opportunity to qualify towards gaining more experience and contact with foreign football schools, which will enable them in the coming years to lead the national teams in all efficient and powerful.
The technical staff of the junior team includes Anwar Al-Habsi, assistant coach, Jassem Al-Dohani, guards coach, and Nasser Al-Abri, fitness coach. And Spain’s Jose Angel Diaz is a performance analyst.
