MUSCAT: Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Sultanate of Oman Ameer Ajwad planted a Sri Lankan fruit sapling wood apple at the Directorate General of Agricultural and Animal Research, at Rumais, Barka in Muscat on the occasion of the 74th Independence Day of Sri Lanka on 4th February 2022.

Wood apple is a citrus fruit tree (Kaith tree) grown in Sri Lankan which has many health and nutritional benefits including high amounts of fibre that improves digestion and protein, iron, calcium, and vitamins B & C which fortifies the immune system.

Ambassador Ameer Ajwad together with his spouse Asmiya Ameer Ajwad planted the Sri Lankan fruit sapling with the presence of the Director of Date Palm and Plant Production Center of Oman Dr. Saif bin Ali Al-khamisi, Head of the West Asia Department of the Foreign Ministry of the Sultanate of Oman Sheikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Shanfari and the officials of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources of the Sultanate of Oman. First Secretary of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Muscat Dilini Abeysekara also participated during the occasion.

Speaking during the event Ambassador Ameer Ajwad said that Sri Lanka and Oman have huge potential in agriculture cooperation and that he looked forward to working for further enhancement of this cooperation between the two countries in the days ahead. Ambassador also extended his sincere appreciation to the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources of the Sultanate of Oman for making special arrangements to plant the Sri Lankan fruit sapling in the Directorate General of Agricultural and Animal Research of Oman to mark the 74th anniversary of Sri Lanka’s Independence.
