MUSCAT: Friday prayers in mosques have been suspended for two weeks, starting from January 23 to February 5, the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs( MERA) said on Sunday.

In a statement issued by MERA said based on the decisions of the Supreme Committee, five daily prayers will be continued to be held in mosques with a 50% capacity.

In the wake of rising coronavirus cases in Oman, the Supreme Committee took stringent measures including reducing the government employees at workplace to 50%.

Meanwhile, MERA said Quran classes affiliated with the Ministry will be held through the distance education system or reducing the capacity to 50% of the school’s total strength as per the terms of the competent authorities.
