MUSCAT: Oman is returning to stricter rules of working from office with minimal presence amid rising cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus.
The Supreme Committee announced stringent measures for workplaces in government sector with 50% of employees working remotely for a period of two weeks. Oman has been registering a significant rise in coronavirus cases of which 99% new infections reported during the current period are due to Omicron.
“According to the statistics and the results of laboratory tests, about 99 per cent of Covid cases registered in the Sultanate during the current period are infected with the Omicron mutator and the number of registered cases is increasing, and it is expected that the cases will continue to rise during the coming period,” said Dr. Amal Bint Saif, Director of the Department of Infection Prevention and Control at Ministry of Health.

Meanwhile, shopping malls, shops, restaurants and cafes must operate only at 50 per cent of its capacity, the Supreme Committee said. While, the committee also suspended Friday prayers. “while at the same time allowing mosques to hold the five daily prayers at a capacity of 50% at each mosque and in line with the procedures announced by the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs in coordination with the Ministry of Health,” the committee added.
