MoU to add table tennis in Oman’s school curriculum signed

MUSCAT: The Oman Table Tennis Association, on Wednesday, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Education to include table tennis in the school curriculum.

The ministry was represented by the Directorate General of Curriculum Development at the event. The agreement was signed by the Ministry of Education, Dr. Yahya bin Khamis Al Harthy, Director General of the General Directorate of Curriculum Development and Abdullah bin Muhammad Bamakhalaf, the President of the Federation.

The signing of this memorandum between the two parties stems from the importance of cooperation between the Ministry of Education and the Omani Table Tennis Association in the scientific, academic and sports fields, and in line with the constant endeavour to develop school sports curricula.

According to the memorandum signed, the Ministry of Education will follow up the implementation of the project in schools within the scope of the curriculum, and the Ministry will also develop a mechanism to include table tennis activities in the school sports curricula.

Among other contributions, the Oman Table Tennis Association will offer support to schools with the necessary equipment to set up the table tennis unit in coordination with the concerned parties in the Ministry, and to implement the training aspect accompanying the implementation of the project by organising training courses for all specialists in school sports.

During the ceremony, the Oman Table Tennis Association also launched a new initiative ‘Tomorrow’s Champions’, through which the association will supply 282 schools with tables, rackets and balls and conduct training workshops for physical education teachers.
