MUSCAT : Omani doctors have confirmed that the rapid and wide spread of coronavirus infections may be due to the mutated Omicron.

Dr Ruwaida bint Nasser Al-Ismailia, a consultant in internal and chest diseases at Al-Nahda Hospital, said in an interview, “The scene seems worrying and we do not want to go back to what happened in the previous wave. An increase in the number of in-patients in the hospital and the increase in the number of critical cases — now the numbers seem less, but the rise seems to be accelerating. According to the statistics, most casualties are the unvaccinated patients.”

Dr Iman bint Muhammad Al-Muqbaliya, a specialist in paediatrics at Al-Nahda Hospital, has also confirmed the increase in the number of Omicron cases.
