Weather alert: Oman to receive heavy rainfall

Trough of low pressure is expected to last until the mid of next week, says Oman Met.

MUSCAT: Many parts of Oman will receive heavy rainfall due to a trough of low pressure that is expected to last until the mid of next week, Oman Met said on Thursday.

In a statement issued, the National Multi Hazard Early Warning Centre said: “The weather is expected to be cloudy over the governorates of Musandam, North Al-Batinah with chances of rain (50-100 mm ) occasionally thunderstorms associated with fresh winds, flash floods and wadis. Chances of cloud advection over governorates of South Al-Batinah, Muscat, Al-Buraimi, Al-Dahirah, Al-Dakhliya, South Al-Sharaqiya and North Al-Shariqiya with (10-30 mm) rainfall.”

“Moderate sea condition along most of the Sultanate coasts with maximum wave height of 2.0 meters becoming rough during thundershowers along the coastal areas of Musandam Governorate and Oman Sea coasts with maximum wave height of 3 meters,” the statement added.
